Ingredients

  1. Mutton - 1 kg
  2. Grated coconut - 1 cup
  3. Red chilli powder (mixed with water to form a paste) - 1 tbsp
  4. Fresh ginger-garlic paste - 2 tbsp
  5. Coriander powder - 3 tbsp
  6. Turmeric powder - 1/2 tbsp
  7. Paprika - 3 tsbp
  8. Black pepper powder - 1/2 tbsp
  9. Cumin seeds (Jeerakam) - 1 tbsp
  10. Fennel seeds (Perinjeerakam) - 1/2 tbsp
  11. Cinnamon (Karugapatta) - 2" stick
  12. Bay leaf (Karuga/Vazhana ela) - 1 no
  13. Cloves (Grambu) - 5 nos
  14. Onions (large) - 2 nos
  15. Cashew nut paste - 2 tsp
  16. Tomato (large) - 2
  17. Coconut milk - 1 cup
  18. Coconut Oil - 3 tbsp
  19. Curry leaves - 1 sprig
  20. Salt - As You Like
How To Make Kerala Mutton Curry

  • First Grind together grated coconut, red chili paste, ginger-garlic paste, coriander, turmeric, paprika, black pepper, cumin, fennel, cinnamon, bay leaf and cloves into a paste.
  • Heat oil in a cooker.
  • Fry the onions Till it gets golden brown.
  • Add the spice paste, sprinkle a little water and fry well, until the spices are roasted.
  • Add the mutton / lamb and stir well.
  • Add the chopped tomatoes, curry leaves and the cashew nut paste.
  • Add salt and 2 cups water. 
  • Cook, until the meat is done.
  • Add the coconut milk and allow it to simmer.
  • Remove from Dish From the stove
  • Serve it with rice, pathiri or chapathi.
